My favorite ribs come from Bones in Lincolnwood. Second choice would be the Orginal A-1 at North Pier. Carson's (several locations) is overrated, but OK.

Note that these are Midwestern-style, chewy ribs with slightly sweet, tomato-based sauces. If you prefer the falling-off-the-bone, eat-with-a-fork style, or the Southern-style vinegar-based sauces, you'll have to look elsewhere.

That's on Wells about Ontario or so. However (comma) is is always crowded and you will wait a year. There is another Carsons up at about Clark & Ridge where 90% of the time you can walk in and get seated.

We stumbled on another good rib place and have been there a number of times. It's way down in Chicago Heights and the last name they had for it was Stones Bones. Before that it was the Rib Cage. I dunno if it's even there, since we haven't been there for 3-4 years or so. It's west of Halstead on some street I can't remember, but a phone book should list it, if it is still alive.

All this talk about ribs is making me hungry here :-)

I've got two of my own favorites here...

FIREPLACE INN: 1448 N. Wells (Old Town), great BBQ baby backs, a bit of a
romantic atmosphere; an appropriate place to see one eat like the animal
   that's sitting on their plate.

FIRESIDE RESTAURANT: 5739 N. Ravenswood (North Side on the east side of the
Chicago & Northwestern/Metra rail tracks), great ribs & wings, as well as a
selection of gourmet small brew beers and ales. If you can get your hands
   on an ENTERTAINMENT '93 book, there's a 2-for-1 coupon.

hasta...
