Ate lunch today at the Tennessee's BBQ rest on rt 114, Andover St, in Peabody, MA. The joint adjoins the Gentlemen's warehouse and if you eat there you will be a size larger next door. Tried the Pulled pork sandwich on a sesame seed roll at $4.95 with baked beans and an interesting cuke salad made with julienned carrots, cukes and a nice vinegar flavor. The pulled pork was a good value but it was not tangy as I prefer. This is a minor criticism and I'm sure if one asks for a spicier flavor, it will be accomodated. Also the unlimited soft drinks or iced tea were a good tradition in Q joints but the tea should be presweetened. All in all it was a good experience. The rest is open 7 days 11am to 10pm weekedays and saturday. sunday 11am to 9pm. Next week I'll try the ribs, the acid test of BBQ. Jeff

New to Me-Tennessee's Real BBQ Rest
We have a Tennessee's Real BBQ out here in Framingham (Rt. 30 mall) and it is simply fantastic. I got to talking with the owner one time and the reason the meat is so tasty is that it is smoked with and combination of woods (apple, cherry, others I forget.) Most restaraunts just boil their ribs and slap on some barbeque sauce while it heats up on the grill. If I recall correctly the ribs take about 7 hours and the briskett smokes from 7 pm until almost lunch time the next day. Sandwiches are about $6 and include barbequed beans and a quite tasty cucumber salad. I've tried the pulled pork, burnt ends, and brisket and they are all heavenly. The rib platters start at about $8 for a half rack with two sides, corn bread, and a slice of watermelon. Three different sauces are available ranging from sweet to hot and if you eat in there are bottles out on the tables to pour on more. I love barbequed ribs and these beat anything else I've ever had by a long shot. Of course the furthest south I've ever travelled is Providence so I have nothing much to compare it to, but you won't find anything else as good as this around here. Bob

The wings come with a dipping sauce that my wife loves. The owner says 2 cups "Strawhat" to 1 Gallon "Ken's Lite Ranch Dressing" makes the sauce. The strawhat is a sweet BBQ sauce that they sell at the restaraunt. Jeffrey B. wrote: > Ate lunch today at the Tennessee's BBQ rest on rt 114, Andover St, in > Peabody, MA.
