I just have come back from my first visit to King's Bar-B-Q in Petersburg, VA.

When Cap'n Ron said it was the best BBQ in the Richmond area, I wasn't sure I wanted to go that far to get good Q. I am glad I did, it was worth the hour drive, and then some.

Now I know how my spare ribs and my pulled pork is supposed to come out!

Quite an eye opener, to be sure. Wow was that good!  I am glad I ordered a pound of bbq to go, too.

Sometimes, life is good.

I'm mighty glad ya had a good meal and all I ask in return is to pass the honest word along so King's will continue to be there for a long time.

There was a great BBQ documentary on PBS some years ago called "Fast Times, Slow Food" where one cue hound remarked "A good BBQ joint can best be defined by how many miles you're willing to drive to get it."  Some deep truth in that! I'll be the first to say that King's BBQ in Petersburg is as fine a 100 mile Carolina style as you'll find here in the Old Dominion.

Now, ya gotta go have a few BBQ sandwiches and a slice of chocolate pie from Cowling's BBQ on Rt.460 in Waverly, VA between Petersburg and Norfolk. Not as great as King's - but really good and a nice country drive too.
