I was wondering around town today and spotted John Muellers. I was there in a heartbeat. Had to get my TX BBQ fix in. The complimentary slice of brisket as you place your order was outstanding - I had already ordered 2lbs of beef short ribs, though ($15.90). No bread, no pickles, no sides, nothing - just beef and lots of it. Had to get it to go as all the tables were very full. If there was outside seating it wasn't obvious. So I took my 2lbs of ribs to CM and ate on the patio while slupring down an Orval ($.45/oz*). John Mueller's wins the best of Austin BBQ hands down. As sson as I walked in and smelled the grub, I knew I was in the right place. The rub for the beef is a mixture of coarsly ground pepper, garlic and onion, plus the perfect amount of salt. If you're not into pepper, though, you may be out of luck, and definately stay away from the Spicy Sauce - waaaay too much pepper in that. Forget Ruby's, Rudy's, Artz, County Line, and all those other posers and head on over to John Muellers. -sw *(Orval is probably the most expensive beer on the planet, but to me it still tastes like bathroom disinfectant. I had to wash it down with a Duvel. CM has a handfull of new-to-TX Belgian ales, FWIW).

John Muellers is really good, his grandfathers place in taylor is better. I do not care for the sauce at John Muellers, something about it being in a crock pot by the front door just doesn't do it for me. Myers Smokehouse in Elgin has some of the best sauce around. -D Dogger wrote: > Spicoli wrote: > > > Brian C. wrote: > > > While I haven't yet been to Mueller's, I'll be going soon enough. > > > IMO, County Line has slowly gone down hill over the past few years. That is the mark of good BBQ, being closed a lot, and cooking in finite amounts. Last weekend I had Texas Rib King's and really it just flat out sucked. The ribs were tough and had a chemical flavor.
