Not much on atmosphere, but a great sticky floor. 14-18 hours smoke meats are the order of the day. Brisket, ribs, chix, turkey, prime rib, etc., etc. There's a barrel full of ice and asst. brews, they always have an asst. of new stuff on the menu, even venison chili, no beans, New Brunswick stew, etc. On RT31, just west of Fox River, one block north of Algonquin Rd(RT 62) I'd like to hear a real Texan's opinion of the food. So this time I'll try the cut and paste version. Doing it this way has lost all the fonts and formatting. The real menu is done in a font called "Hog Bold". The menu is centered instead of left to right as shown here. Also missing is the large logo just above where it says "Take out/Drive-Thru" It is circular and says "Benny's Bar-B-Q Southern Style Wood Pit Cooking" Please critique it <or praise>. If you feel something is missing you are probably right. I will be doing a daily special and at least one extra side a day as a special. The menu is folded in half so I put lines in between each facing so you know where each page ends. <Large Logo Here> Take out/Drive-Thru Monday- Saturday 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 218 Lancaster Blvd. NE Salem, OR 97301 Phone 503-391-9876 Fax 503-364-2842 In the tradition of the deep south, everything at Benny's is made from scratch, using only the finest ingredients. Doug tried to incite a riot by saying: >Now if you really want to start an argument, get a bunch of folks from >Central Texas arguing about where to go for the best Que. Well, that's being done right now in the austin.food newsgroup. "Not available on all systems, call your cable operator and ask for it." One student at UT asked where some good bbq is to take her mother to, who will be in from out of town. From the responses, it seems that Coopers in Llano, Kreutz's in Lockhart I think, and another one which I forget the name in the same town as Kruetz's. The Pitt in downtown Austin was mentioned, then shotdown by someone who says the new owners don't baste (I assume they are speaking of mopping), anymore while cooking. The Salt Lick seemed to be the most recommended. At least they never mentioned County Line, 'cuz I just don't think they are that good. I gotta go check out the Salt Lick sometime. It's in a dry county, so it's BYOC (bring your own Celis) and the drive is supposed to be really neat. About an hour through the Texas Hill Country south of Austin. As for now, this Central Texan has no opinion on the best, but I could rattle off a few I won't go back to, County Line included. But their bread ain't bad. And they've got a neat little framed display of the 1941 line of Heddon Popper fishing lures I'd like to have...
