If you don't mind visiting a less than great section of town, try Harold's bar-b-q. It is just off University (south of the stadium, near the Federal Pen). It is by far the finest bar-b-q in the city of Atlanta. Made famous by the late great Lewis Grizzard. Get the pork platter (with brunswick stew and corn bread). Just thinking about it makes me hungry!

Just thinking about it makes me hungry! I second Harold's! It's amazing southern barbecue and you are highly likely to run into several Georgian politicians during lunch. The 'less than great" section of town kinda gets evened out by the fact that there are much nicer cars than normal there during business lunch-hour. The food, as has been said, is exceptional. If you want a different twist, try Fat Matt's Rib Shack on Piedmont Ave. It's a black owned rib joint with a very limited menu. (Ribs, Beans, potato salad, beer).

Deacon Burton's, across from the Little 5 Points MARTA station has great soul food--good lunch-cafeteria spot. Dusty's Barbecue, out by Emory U., has good barbecue and a great name; and Mary Mac's Tea Room (spelling?) by Georgia Tech is fantastic--wonderful fried chicken, collards with pork, GREEN BEANS to die for! Since moving back to New England 7 yrs ago, I still dream of Mary Mac's chicken. All the pols eat lunch there, and of course the Tech engineers. All ultra-cheap. Brucie Harvey [email removed]

The best I've had every anyone, anytime, at any price.
Dusty's (near Emory University) has VERY inexpensive, North Carolina-style barbecue-----it looks like a dive, with pig bric-a-brac everywhere, and is very rustic, but it is CHEAP and GOOD!!!!!!!! bp-p
