Cooper's in Llano is legendary. Lockhart is the Nirvana of Texas BBQ. Kruez's Market (good BBQ don't need no sauce) is generally considered the best in the state (therefore the universe). Brown's is also legendary as is Chisolm Trail. In some of these places, the meat is served on butcher paper, no sauce or sides except for onions, pickles, and of course jalapenos. __________________________ Tyler Hopper "He's A High Tech Redneck" Fight SPAM! Central Texas suggestions?
Read "Roadfood" above for Candace Grover. There are some comments there for Texas. And yes, there are many good places near and in Austin...in Lockhart, Llano, and in Taylor....all within easy bbq driving distance of Austin. Go to Texas Monthly Magazine at www.texasmonthly.com for information about wonderful places to experience the flavor of Texas-style bbq. Not only is the bbq very good, the atmosphere of many of these places is something you will have fun experiencing. I have two: RO's Outpost, out 71W towards Lake Travis. Use pecan, cook about 48 hours. Meat's delicious, and they trim off the outside and the fat... so your weight is 100% edible meat, not fat and skin. Everything this place cooks is good - sausage, ribs, beans, potato salad, etc. Forgot the name of it... it's in Burnet, just afters you turn at that intersection to head towards Buchanan Dam. It's a little, grungy-looking place on the right. Been there for ages, very popular with the locals. This is the *juiciest* BBQ I've ever eaten, bar none. I don't know how they keep it so moist, but you almost half eat it and half drink it. My wife and I stopped there Sunday afternoon, and I got to slopping that stuff into my mouth with my hands and almost had a barbecue-gasm... Ron M.
Try Woody's on the south side of San Marcos. Someone wrote: >I'm in the process of planning a trip I've long dreamed >about, a week or two cruising around Texas and eating >barbecue til I bust. I was there just a couple of days ago. It was wonderful. And the margaritas helped chase it down... I know this is probably late, but Kruez is what you're looking for. I am not a big fan of Pork Q, but their pork chops are awesome. Kreuz is only open Monday thru Saturday and closes at 6pm so plan accordingly. David

Right there in Austin is at least a dozen places with great food of all types.
Don't forget Cooper's in Llano. The best brisket I have ever had. Also Louie Mueller's in Taylor has great homemade sausage studded with jalapenos. Wonderful !!! Both are legends and are both in the hill country. wrote in article ... > On 27 Mar 1999 15:25:28 PST, Andy Taylor > wrote: > > >Don't forget the Houston Area!!!!
