Here is a list of some of the best. The Boar's Butt, Winfield, Al US Hwy 78 Sprayberry's, Newnan, GA US Hwy 29 Old Jim's, Murpheesboro AK SR 27 You ain't gonna find the best bbq, in no city. Take my word for it. No matter where the name comes from, or who started it, or what style is best, The way to find good BBQ, Bar-B-Q, Barbacue, Barbeque, Barbequeue, or even babricot, is to get yerself out to the country roads of America, particularly the South (personal opinion on my part, I could be biased) and follow your nose. This is close to my last post on this group. I will be getting some comercial account in the future, but that will wait until My employment situation is improved. It has been fun being a part of this newsgroup. Y'all take care, Lars

Best Bar-b-que place in the US

The Georgia Pig in Atlanta
Burrell's in Santa Ana and Irvine, CA
Obviously, no one here has been to Clark's BBQ in Tioga, TX (30-45 minutes north of Dallas). Clark's is in an old gas station (or similar building, just off the highway), in a town of about 50 people. Although Tioga is in a "dry" county, you can buy a membership to choose from some really great, sometimes obscure, beers. Steve Bogner
Who knows if it's still there, but The Pig Stand in Belzoni, Mississippi was one awesome BBQ stand! Talk about the middle of nowhere, though.
There's a place down by the river in Knoxville, TN...wish I could remember the name! Might be Calhoon's or something like that. Amazing BBQ ribs. Mt. Vernon Stable in Baltimore is good too. -E
Texas-style barbeque: Goode & Company, Houston TX (first rate, notwithstanding the city location) North Carolina style: Parker's in Wilson, NC I haven't tried Bryant's in Kansas City, but have heard from several independent sources that it's gone downhill since Trilling's praises were written -- possibly due to a change in ownership. If in Kansas City, ask around first.
To discuss the best bar-b-que one most travel to Owensboro, KY in late May for the Bar-b-que Festival. Local Churches and Civic Clubs compete for honors in many areas. Churches have been bar-b-queing for over 150 years around here. On the resturant scene, Old Hickory (near 25th and Frederica), Shady Rest (on U.S. 60 East), and Moonlite (on Parrish Ave.) have received the most national media. My personal choice is Old Hickory for the best bar-b-que in the nation.

My wife and I drove to the Keys and hit Owensboro right at this time..spent nearly two full days there eating. >On the resturant scene, Old Hickory (near 25th and >Frederica), Shady Rest (on U.S. 60 East), and Moonlite (on Parrish Ave.) >have received the most national media. We went to the Moonlite (Tavern) for their all-you-can-eat buffet which was unbelievable - my cholesterol level is still trying to recover. But it was *so* good. >My personal choice is Old Hickory for the best bar-b-que in the nation. Well, we'll have to try it next time we're there.. :) regards, -mm
Kansas City (my hometowm).......
Arthur Bryants on about 27th(?) and Brooklyn Ave........ good ribs, great
pork bbq sandwiches!!!! Even presidents have been there, at least
when Mr. bryant himself was still alive (last I can recall was Pres.
Carter in 1980).
Winslow's at City Market......decent ribs, great smoked turkey with bbq sauce
(made in house, of course!!!). Reasonable prices. Real busy when the
City Market is open on Saturdays!!!!!
Gates and Sons (various locations around the area).....great ribs, great pulled
pork sandwiches, brisket, and excellent baked beans. Their sauce is
marketed in grocery stores all around the KC metro, but I understand it
is available in specialty stores around the country (saw some in the
Fanueil Hall Marketplace in Boston about a month or two ago).
--->I haven't been in the area more than a week at a time over the past three
years, but if residency assignments work as I hope, I will be back in
the area within the next year!!!!! B - D
As yet, I have not found anything here in Indianapolis that can compare.
Damon's and G. T. South's are close (South's being much closer), but I still can't seem to find something that can satisfy my occasional bbq cravings as the Kansas City stuff can. <SIGH!>
Just my $0.02......well, maybe more like $0.50!!! ;-)

Just an addendum to my previous post......
I heard the same thing from my parents. They said that the last time they went would probably be the last time they will go. They noted that it is no where near the quality it was some 10 years ago. I will try to swing by there (during the day as one does not dare enter that neighborhood after dark unless you truly live in the area) when I am home on my next short "break"....probably over Thanksgiving. If I remember, I will try to give you an update.

[email removed]For _real_ barbeque--as opposed to awful old beef--try Pess's Pit, Moscow, Tennessee.
