: My definition of BBQ is meat cooked so long and slow that you : almost hate to put sauce on it, it tastes so good. No place : around here is perfect. The places you mentioned are all : OK, but nothing to take your visiting cousins to.

: I am not a fan of hot sauces. I can eat very hot foods, so it isn't : because I don't like hot. For me, BBQ is about the meat, and if you : sear your taste buds, you'll miss the wonder of really good smoked meat.

: Off the top of my head, the northern california BBQ standards : which you didn't mention are:

: Don's Central Texas BBQ in Castroville,
: a ba.food FRE (Frequently Recommended Establishment) THE place : to gor for brisket in Northern California (except of course, my : house, where I make the best brisket in the universe :)

A bit out of the way, but Bobby's in Tahoe (King's Beach) has some of the best ribs I've ever eaten. The meat just sort of melts off the bone...

You *do* plan to post the recipe for the world's best brisket, don't you?

: In the past year or two, Armadillo Willy's finally "got religion" : and learned to cook real BBQ. The brisket and pork roast are : now pretty good there. I like to mix their two sauces to get : closer to the flavor I like. I speak only of the Los Altos : location, as that is the one at which I eat.

: Everett and Jones (several e-bay locations, one on A street in : hayward, AND they have a booth at Warrior's basketball games) : These people have a sauce that is to die for. This sauce on their : smokey links or chicken is a heavenly experience. Get mild, as the : heat spoils the sauce (IHMO of course)

: Leon's in the City (near the zoo?) I can offer no opinion, I : only ate here once, and I can't remember. Occasionally mentioned : as a "good place"

: Big Nate's in the City, (14th and folsom?). Nate doesn't like the : flavor of hickory, so he uses oak to smoke the meat. I prefer : hickory/mesquite, but maybe others will disagree. Haven't been there : in a couple of years.

: Yum!

Try King's Palace in Brisbane -- it's on the way south from Candlestick on Old Bayshore (west side). Outstanding 'q. -- Tony (tony.lima#toadhall.com)
