The County Line is not even "good". It is there for the tourists and yuppies. For pure atmosphere the Salt Lick is hard to beat. The food is not the best but is good and MUCH better than the County Line. You will need to bring your own beer, part of the fun though. Coolers are always welcome there. The Iron Works in downtown Austin has a very good reputation but I haven't eaten there. RailRoad Barbecue in Kyle, south of Austin on 35 is not bad. Blacks Barbecue in Lockhart, south of Austin on 183 is very good. Some of the best are the small family owned joints. One I can recommend is Don's on Manor Road. East of 183 just past the turn for the Travis County heritage center. Don't let the outside fool you. At lunch time you stand in line to get in. Many of these do not sell beer. Don's for instance. So if that is necessary call ahead. Good luck, there are many barbecue joints here I am sure you can get your fill.
Barbecue
Austin, Texas
I remember a place called, "Pass the Biscuits Please". One in Round Rock, N. of town, another out towards TI. I hope they're still open. For the beef ribs. . .
