We were in Phoenix/Scottsdale area last week and went to 3 outstanding restaurants - Roxsands, Christopher's Bistro and Vincent's (I think his last name is attached to that but Vincent is enough). We also found the seafood very good at Shells, a restaurant in the Marriott Mountain Shade (or Shadow?) Resort in Paradise Valley.

The "Vincent's" referred to is Vincent Guerihault on Camelback. It was wonderful when I dined there several years ago. It's reassuring to hear that it continues to be appreciated.

Distinguished Restaurants of North America http://www.DiRoNA.com lists the following Phoenix restaurants, and I can hardly disagree with them:

Christopher's, RoxSand, Vincent Guerithault, Wright's, and Eddie's Grill

Admittedly, most of them are formal and somewhat expensive.

If you're not familiar with Phoenix, you should also be warned that the town suffers from wicked urban sprawl, which can make certain fine restaurants in Scottsdale and Tempe not really worth the trip. Fortunately, you have more than a week's worth of choices in the Camelback corridor alone.

Starting just across the street from your hotel, you have the Biltmore Fashion Park at 24th Street. Christopher's is one of the shining (albeit expensive) jewels in the area. There are a wide variety of restuarants in the outdoor Biltmore Fashion Park, including RoxSand, Nola's, Steamer's, and sushi at Ayako.

A little further east down Camelback is the amazing, yet expensive Vincent Guerithault. Who knows -- if you're staying at the Ritz though, it may actually be in your budget.

There are two fairly reasonable Italian restaurants about two miles east of your hotel: Il Forno on 43rd Street and Camelback, and La Fontanella at 40th Street and Indian School, which is one mile south.

Hope this helps,

Wolfgang Puck's Obachine is very good and not totally outrageous. If you like microbreweries, Hops! Brewery and Bistro is close to Obachine. Pizzaria Bianco was listed in Gourmet's Top 20 for Phoenix. If you want to know the list from Gourmet Mag., LMK

Be Cool...

Have been to Richardson's while visiting a friend twice.....I insisted we go back it was that GREAT. It is New Mexican food. Can't tell you where it is but definitely worth the trip. Entrees were in the $12 to $20 range. Had a GREAT porterhouse with NM side dishes and an increible, ummm, just went brain dead, chile (?) stuffed with assagio cheese, spinach, more chiles, chicken and ?. Forget it....too late too tired. If you want directions and phone number email me and I'll send you the stuff fm my home.
