For Mexican food that the locals go for, try Tee Pee Tap Room, 42nd St. & Indian School Road in east Phoenix.

The Chili relleno is to die for...but bring your appetite. This restaurant is attached to a bar so there is no "non-smoking" area.

I am usually adamant about sitting in a non-smoking area, but this place is one of my few exceptions.

Eat early (by 6:30 latest) & during the week, if possible. Otherwise there's a wait.

Try Carlos O'Brien's in Phoenix. Food very good, prices reasonable. If you think you have an appetite, try the two beef enchilada dinner.

Julio's Barrio, in Scottsdale. I don't know the address.

On Camelback Road, a block or two east of Scottsdale Road, on the south side.

BTW, one block further east of Julio's Barrio is "Julio's, Too". It is designed as a Mexican take-out place. But, they have tables. If you don't mind ordering at the counter, paper plates, plastic tools & wax cups, it's the same high quality food & a slightly different menu, at VERY reasonable prices. Great place for a quick lunch.
