The Printing Press is a mural by John W. Alexander in the east corridor of the Thomas Jefferson Building at the Library of Congress. It belongs to his Evolution of the Book series and honors Johann Gutenberg and the printing trade of 1450 to 1500. Alexander was a painter, and this photograph was issued by the Boston firm Curtis & Cameron, known for reproductions of art and architecture. Its copyright dates of 1896 and 1897 place it close to the building's opening.
