A colored print from 1900 lists the performance schedule of Harry Houdini in Germany, a tour that marked his rise to stardom in Europe. By then he had left behind the dime museum and medicine show work of his earlier years. In 1899 the Orpheum Circuit booking agent Martin Beck arranged bigger engagements for him, and in 1900 Houdini concentrated on escape acts, the challenge routines that became his trademark. The schedule itself offers a glimpse of how a touring magician planned his dates across a foreign circuit at the turn of the century.
