A wide aerial panorama shows a stretch of coastline with a large tent camp pitched on the sand and flat ground behind the beach. Because the view is taken from above, the rows of tents, the lines of paths between them, and the edge where land meets surf are all visible at once, giving a sense of how a temporary settlement was laid out along the shore. Camps of this kind were often set up quickly to house workers, refugees or people displaced by a disaster, and their arrangement near the water usually reflected access to supplies, transport and fresh water. Aerial images like this one are valuable to researchers because they record the scale and spacing of a camp that ground-level photographs rarely capture.
