Thanksgiving is one of the few holidays Americans share nationwide, and its roots are often traced to a 1621 harvest feast in Plymouth Colony. President Lincoln set a national day of thanks in 1863, but the fourth-Thursday date was not fixed until 1941, after Franklin Roosevelt's 1939 proclamation and a Congressional act. Pictures of the holiday from this era usually center on the family table, the gathered household, and the roast bird, so it is worth looking at who is shown and how the scene is arranged.
