Few details survive in this record about the lighthouse itself, so the picture is best read through its subject: a tower standing over a rocky shoreline, with the keeper's house built close beside it. Keeper's dwellings were usually placed within sight of the light so that the keeper could tend the lamp day and night, and on many coasts the two buildings were the only fixed structures for miles. The word "Reverse" on the print suggests it may be a reversed or mirrored copy of an original negative or plate, a common feature in early photographic work.
