Few images show the political energy of young people in post-revolutionary Mexico as directly as a group portrait of members of the Federación de Juventudes Comunistas de México. The federation was the youth wing of the Mexican Communist Party, and its members joined the labor, agrarian and anti-fascist campaigns that drew many students and workers into left-wing politics during the 1920s and 1930s. Group portraits like this one often documented organizers and projected solidarity, so the faces and postures are worth studying as a record of how the movement presented itself to the public.
