The station at Vladivostok was the Pacific end of the Trans-Siberian Railway, the rail line that carried passengers and freight across Siberia to a port that had been Russia's main window on the Pacific since the late nineteenth century. Its surroundings were a busy point of arrival and departure, and the city became a center of political and military activity during the Russian Civil War and the Allied intervention that followed the 1917 revolution. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption cards that the Bain News Service supplied without verification, so the exact year and the scene's details remain uncertain. The glass negative is still worth a close look for its record of a transport hub that mattered in a turbulent period.
