Few team photographs from the late 1920s capture a whole roster in one wide frame like this panoramic view of the 1929 Chicago Cubs. The club won the National League pennant that season, and the players are shown posed together as a single squad, which was a common way teams of the era marked a championship year. The Cubs were playing at their home park on the North Side, then known as Wrigley Field, and the season ended in a World Series loss to the Philadelphia Athletics. The sweep of players across the frame shows how sports photographers of the period used wide formats to record an entire team.
