The Witch House on Turner Street in Salem, Massachusetts, is one of the few buildings in the city tied directly to the 1692 witch trials, and this card shows it as a tourist would have seen it around 1902. The house was built in the 1640s for merchant Jonathan Corwin, a magistrate who sat on the court that examined accused witches, and its steep gables and small-paned windows give it the weathered, old-world look that drew visitors to Salem even then. Photomechanical halftone cards like this one were produced in large numbers for travelers, so the picture reflects how the town was marketed as a destination for its colonial past rather than only as a record of the house itself.
