The catalog gives only the name Alda, and it flags even that title as unverified, so the sitter cannot be confirmed from the record alone. One possible identification is the soprano Frances Alda, a New Zealand-born singer who performed with the Metropolitan Opera in New York in the 1910s and 1920s. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, produced large numbers of glass negatives like this one for newspapers and magazines, and its working files were often captioned in haste, which is why the details here are uncertain.
