The director's room at the Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee offers a rare look inside the offices of a company that began in 1849 as a small operation under August Krug and grew into one of the largest beer makers in the United States. After Krug's death in 1856, Joseph Schlitz took over and expanded the business, which became a major force in Milwaukee's brewing industry. The caption card gives no date, so the photograph's exact age is uncertain, but the setting is worth noticing for what it shows about how a corporate office of that era was furnished and run.
