The distinctive feature here is the cab's instrument panel and control levers rather than the machine as a whole, since the gauges and hand levers are what the eye lands on first. The speedometer is marked in miles per hour, a reminder that many early tractors were adapted from horse-drawn work and needed a way for operators to judge road speed when moving between fields. Tractors of this kind changed farm labor over the first half of the twentieth century, replacing teams of animals for plowing and hauling. Dashboards like this one show how a farm machine gradually took on the controls of an automobile, with the operator managing throttle, gears and implements by hand.
