The only identifying detail in this record is the title, "Byron," which was taken from the negative or its caption card and has not been verified. That name could point to the poet Lord Byron, one of several American towns, or another place, so the subject is uncertain. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied photographs of current events and public figures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its small glass negatives show how press pictures were produced before flexible film became standard.
