Unlike the dressed figures usually grouped under clothing and dress, this full-length study shows a young woman unclothed as she looks into a mirror. The record dates it to about 1902 and credits Fritz W. Guerin as photographer, though those details come from an old caption card and have not been verified. Around the turn of the twentieth century, studio studies of the nude figure circulated among painters, sculptors and collectors, and mirror compositions were a common way to suggest a private moment. The pose and the reflection, rather than any garment, are what draw the eye.
