Scheveningen, a seaside resort on the North Sea near The Hague in the Netherlands, is the place this glass negative is said to show, though the title comes from caption data the Bain News Service recorded and has not been independently verified. The Bain agency, a New York business that supplied news and feature photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, collected views like this from many countries, and beach scenes were popular for their glimpses of seaside leisure and dress. Because no date is recorded, researchers would need to compare the clothing, bathing customs and buildings with dated views of the resort to place it in time.
