Four men sit around a table in Paterson, New Jersey, the silk-mill city where *La Questione Sociale*, an Italian-language anarchist newspaper, was produced for the city's large Italian immigrant workforce. The paper's circle included Errico Malatesta and later Luigi Galleani, and its pages reached Italian workers across the region with calls for labor organizing and political debate. The record does not name the sitters or give a date, so the scene is best read as a snapshot of a working newsroom in the early 1900s. The photograph came from the Bain News Service, a commercial wire-photo agency whose glass negatives record the period's press and public life.
