The record gives only one word, "Messager," as the title, and it lists no date, so the subject of this negative can't be pinned down from the catalog alone. The title comes from notes made by the Bain News Service, a New York picture agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and the Library of Congress has not verified it. Glass negatives like this one, 5 by 7 inches or smaller, were the standard working medium for press photographers of that era, and they preserve the sharp detail that made such images useful for print reproduction.
