Its title is set in Slovak and Czech and calls on God to strike injustice with thunder, a phrase that speaks directly to Czech and Slovak communities still inside Austria-Hungary in 1918. Posters like this circulated as the war was ending and the empire was breaking apart, when Czech and Slovak leaders were pressing for an independent state. The bold lettering and emotional appeal reflect the propaganda style common to wartime and revolutionary printing of the period. Read alongside the other World War I prints on this board, it shows how the conflict was argued over on the home front as well as the battlefield.
