A full-length study of a young woman standing with a rake, this photograph was made around 1902 by Fritz W. Guerin. The caption card's subject tracings, "Women" and "Agriculture (Symbol)," suggest the picture was meant less as a record of farm work than as an allegory of rural labor and the harvest. Studio images like this one, with posed figures and props, were popular at the turn of the century, and the full-length view makes the cut and layers of her clothing easy to study.
