The balloon shed is a plain, boxy hangar, drawn in Joseph Pennell's lithograph with a few confident strokes. Pennell, an American printmaker known for city and industrial scenes, turned to wartime subjects while he was working in Britain. Sheds like this one housed the observation balloons used to watch enemy lines and guide artillery, so the building was a working part of the war effort. Wuerth's catalog lists the print as number 462 among Pennell's lithographs.
