The title Rodeo Riders, L.A. comes from caption cards and negative labels kept by Bain News Service, though the record marks it as unverified and gives no date. George Grantham Bain's agency was a New York news photo service that supplied pictures of current events to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Rodeo competitions of that period drew large crowds in Western cities, and news photographers often turned to them for lively action shots. The glass negative format, typical of the years before flexible film became standard, is worth noticing.
