The title names Flores Magón, most likely Ricardo Flores Magón, the Mexican journalist and anarchist who co-founded the Partido Liberal Mexicano and published the newspaper *Regeneración* from exile in the United States. A trailing name, "Y Zermeno," also appears in the record, but the Bain News Service's identifications were often unverified, so the sitter's full identity should be treated with caution. Flores Magón spent much of the 1910s in American jails and prisons on charges tied to his opposition to the Mexican government, and he died in federal custody at Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1922. Glass negatives like this one were made for the Bain agency's news trade, so the image reflects American press interest in the Mexican Revolution and its radical exiles.
