The record names the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris as the setting, with German machine guns, or mitrailleuses, as the subject. Founded in 1670 as a home for disabled soldiers, the complex later housed a major military museum, and captured enemy weapons were often displayed there as trophies of war. The Bain News Service, a press photo agency that supplied newspapers in the United States, made the negative, but the record gives no date and the title is unverified. The picture is worth a look for its record of how wartime weapons were shown to the public in France.
