This ink drawing is unusual because it shows two Camden theaters on one sheet: the Towers theater at Broadway and Pine Street, and the Broadway theater on Broadway near Kaighn Avenue. The cataloguers were unsure of the second cross street, which is marked with a question mark in the record. The drawing dates from 1939, a period when neighborhood movie houses were a central part of city life and many were being built or updated to draw audiences during the Depression. Plans like this one, held in the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division, record how such buildings were laid out and give a useful view of a working city streetscape.
