Chicks, a hen and an oversized egg crowd together on this vintage Easter postcard, a combination that became a stock motif in holiday cards of the early twentieth century. Postcards of this kind were mass-produced and mailed in large numbers, especially around the holidays, when a few cents could carry a greeting across town or across the country. Easter imagery leaned on spring and new life, so chicks and eggs stood in for renewal, while the hen signaled the farm and the home. Notice how the bright colors and decorative borders reflect the printing methods of the period.
