Easter postcards like this one, with their cheerful chicks and a painted egg, were a popular way to send holiday wishes in the early twentieth century. Greeting cards of this kind usually paired a bright seasonal motif with a short printed message, so the sender could say hello without writing much at all. Small chicks and eggs had long stood for spring and new life in Easter imagery, and by the turn of the century color lithography had made such designs cheap to mass-produce. Looking closely, you can see how the artist arranged the soft pastel palette and the playful birds to give the card a gentle, nostalgic charm.
