Daniel R. Anthony Jr. was a newspaper publisher from Leavenworth who represented Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than two decades, and this glass negative records him during the early 1920s. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that worked from the 1910s into the 1920s, made many portraits of public figures and officials, and its negatives were later gathered into the Library of Congress. Viewers should note the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which the catalog attributes to natural deterioration of the original coating rather than to the photographer's work.
