Lucky Strike's ad campaigns of the 1920s and 1930s leaned hard on feminine imagery, and this one places a woman among blossoms, a pairing meant to soften the image of smoking for female buyers. American tobacco makers were then courting women, who had gained the vote in 1920 and were becoming a bigger share of the consumer market. Lucky Strike's "Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet" slogan, which later ran in the 1920s, shows how the brand linked its product with slimness and self-control. Looking closely, the florals serve as a decorative frame that makes the cigarette feel like a gentle, fashionable choice rather than a rugged one.
