A knight and a dragon carry the message of this color lithograph, which asks viewers to subscribe to the sixth war loan. The allegory of a armored hero fighting a monster was a common way for wartime posters to cast a financial appeal as a struggle worth joining. Austria-Hungary, like the other belligerents, paid for the war largely through bond drives, and posters such as this one asked ordinary citizens to lend money to the state and to treat their savings as a patriotic duty. The print is signed by M. Lenz and dated 1917, when the war was in its third year and its costs were climbing steeply.
