Few posters on this board advertise a bank branch, but this one names the Vienna office of the Živnostenská Banka, a Prague-founded institution, beside the call to "subscribe to the 7th War Loan." Austria-Hungary ran a series of these bond drives to finance the war, and by 1918 the appeals had grown more urgent as the empire's finances strained and the fighting dragged on. Banks served as the sales counters for the bonds, so a poster like this one brings the war's financial machinery to the street, where ordinary savers were asked to lend their money to the state.
