Little is recorded about the sitter beyond the name Dr. Adolf Groeber, a title the Bain News Service put on the negative and its caption card without independent verification. The picture belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, built from the work of a New York news photography agency that supplied images to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Bain's photographers made portraits and news pictures on glass plates, and those negatives later came to the Library of Congress in large numbers. Treat the identification as a starting point for research rather than settled fact.
