The only identifying detail in the record is the surname Piez, with a date of May 1, 1914, and the title itself comes from caption cards that the Bain News Service wrote, which the Library of Congress notes it has not verified. The Bain News Service was a New York agency founded by George Grantham Bain that sold pictures of people, events, and places to newspapers, so this negative was made for quick press use rather than as a considered portrait. Its nitrate base was standard for news photography of the period, and it is also a fragile, flammable material that archives now copy and store with care.
