Infrared film turns foliage pale and skies dark, and this view of a field, fence line and parked farm machinery shows that effect clearly. The technique was popular with photographers in the mid-twentieth century, when infrared-sensitive film was sold for landscape and scientific work. Because the grass and crops reflect infrared light so strongly, the ordinary green fields take on a ghostly white glow, while the metal equipment stays dark and sharp against them. The contrast makes the machinery look almost sculptural, a reminder of how much farm work once depended on such equipment set out in open land.
