A Greeting from Coney Island" places this card at the Brooklyn seaside amusement district, and the scene itself is a quiet one: a couple dining together at night. Picture postcards were enormously popular in the early 1900s, during the period known as the postcard craze, when people mailed huge numbers of them. Coney Island, with its lights, restaurants and crowds, was a favorite subject for these cards, and a romantic vignette like this one turned an ordinary holiday greeting into a small expression of affection, which is why it fits naturally among Valentine's Day images.
