Stage comedienne Trixie Friganza, a popular vaudeville and Broadway performer, stands among women posed on the steps of a New York building, in a scene the caption presents as a suffragette gathering. The Bain News Service's title is marked unverified, so the exact occasion and location remain uncertain. In 1908 the suffrage movement was drawing growing press attention in New York, with marches and street meetings. Bain's agency sold such pictures to newspapers, making this a useful record of how well-known performers were drawn into the campaign's public image.
