Victor Herbert's comic opera *The Fortune Teller* is remembered mainly for its "Gypsy Love Song," and this poster puts that tune at the center of its appeal. It was printed as a silkscreen under the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists in the late 1930s to design posters for theaters, concerts and civic events. The record ties the poster to Cincinnati, Ohio. Bold, flat areas of color were typical of WPA silkscreens, which could be printed cheaply in quantity.
