Airships bearing the Goodyear name have drifted over American crowds since the 1920s, when the company's blimps became a familiar sight at sporting events and public gatherings. Their slow, low flight made them well suited to carrying advertising and giving spectators a view from above. Set against a holiday occasion like Thanksgiving, the aircraft connects to a tradition of large public celebrations, when crowds gathered to watch parades and other festivities. The sheer size of an airship is easy to appreciate when it fills the sky above the ground.
