Few sports images from around 1910 show women on the diamond as plainly as this stereograph does. The Library of Congress catalogs it as a Underwood & Underwood card, the firm that produced large numbers of stereoscopic views for home viewers in the early twentieth century. Baseball was by then a common pastime in American towns, and mixed play was a familiar sight at picnics and local grounds, though women's participation in organized sport was still limited and often met with raised eyebrows. The title was devised by Library staff, so the record offers little beyond the scene itself, which makes the card worth studying for its clothing, field and crowd.
